Rudolf Hellgrewe is a very well documented German painter with regular markups in the four-digit range. 
Hellgrewe studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts under Eugen Bracht and Christian Wilberg. Then he focused on painting, especially landscape painting. Most of his motifs come from the Märkisch Brandenburg landscapes, whose beauty he discovered first.  He quickly became the “painter of the Märkisch lakes and sunsets” and became very popular. In the later years, this popularity - and the fact that he had to meet the constant demand - tempted him to repeat his motifs almost identically time and again. He is also famous for his colonial paintings.
