Cesarino Monti - I saltimbanchi
Beautiful painting by the master Cesarino Monti.
About the artist:
Monti Cesarino, Milan 15 September 1916 - Brescia, 31 August 1979.
"A character is gone, a clown has stopped acting, a painter has permanently deposited the brushes. Stage of its existence, the round circus platform ". These are the words Vittorio Brunone chose for the lamentation of Cesarino Monti, when he died in the Civil Hospital of Brescia. Many people in the town knew him, he was a friend to all. His artistic journey has been slightly distorted by the fictional stories about the character, which maybe limited, if not damaged, his many qualities. The true talent still today must be sought, dissociating the easy oleography from how much it yielded from a greater commitment. He was the nephew of the well known Cesare Monti. The artist studied painting in Brescia. He left our city in 1935 and was assistant scenographer at La Scala; meanwhile he attended for some time the school of drawing and painting of the Academy of Brera. After the pause imposed by the world war, he resumed working as a scenographer, collaborating in shows such as "Bolero" by Ravel, "Tanvalse" by Busoni or "Glauco Il uomo dal fiore in bocca" by Pirandello.
The painter was much loved by Indro Montanelli who presented his catalogue including a beautiful review of his works.
