Baroque Violin Bow – c. 69.5 cm

1. Introduction

A beautifully crafted baroque violin bow inspired by early 18th-century models. This fine example combines historical authenticity with refined workmanship, perfectly suited for players seeking a historically informed performance experience.

2. Historical and Artistic Context

The design reflects the period of Bach and Handel, when bow makers transitioned from clip-in frogs to early screw mechanisms. Its elegant curvature and proportions enable the light, articulate phrasing characteristic of Baroque violin repertoire.

3. Craftsmanship and Materials

Fashioned from select pernambuco-type hardwood with a hand-carved open Baroque frog and a turned ebony button. The stick exhibits a warm reddish-brown patina with a smooth, polished surface. The hair ribbon is clean, evenly tensioned, and ready for immediate use.

4. Tonal Character and Playability

This bow provides quick response, excellent clarity, and natural bounce. It produces a clear, transparent tone ideal for early violin works, offering balance between delicacy and projection.

5. Condition

In mint condition, with no cracks, warping, or repairs. The frog and grip area are in excellent shape, showing minimal signs of use. Hair is in clean, playable state.

6. Measurements

Total length: 69.5 cm
Model: Early 18th-century Baroque violin bow style
Material: Hardwood (pernambuco-type)

7. Packaging, Shipping, and Warranty

Securely packed in a reinforced protective tube or case for safe worldwide shipping. Fully insured and traceable dispatch with careful handling guaranteed.

8. Attribution

Executed in the tradition of Baroque violin bow makers active in Germany and Italy, circa 1730–1750.
