1965 special issue of Asahi Graph reporting the realities of war; includes Ken Kaiko’s early milestone “Vietnam War Chronicle.”
Published by Asahi Shimbun as an emergency feature, this supplement documents the Vietnam conflict with text in Japanese and a large format of approx. 33 × 26 cm. It brings together Ken Kaiko’s dispatches from February 1965 and a powerful body of photographs by staff photographer Keiichi Akimoto, conveying on-the-ground tension and human expression. Contemporary accounts noted that some 200 war correspondents were active and only a small fraction returned, a severity reflected in these pages.
Regarded as a classic of reportage, Kaiko narrowly escaped death during this assignment. Accompanying him, Akimoto produced one of his defining series, recording in detail the harrowing execution of a Vietnamese high-school student. Beyond photojournalism, this volume stands as a valuable primary source for researchers and collectors of modern war reporting.
--- Condition ---
The cover shows signs of wear from age and has faint stains. There is light surface scuffing overall, with wear visible on the corners.
The internal pages are free from detachment or tears, and this does not affect readability.
