The Siberian mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius) was a large, hairy elephant-like animal that lived during the Ice Age in very cold places like Siberia. It had thick fur, long curved tusks, and ate plants such as grass and shrubs. Many remains were preserved in frozen ground, helping scientists learn about them. Most mammoths died out about 10,000 years ago.
