These miniature headphones were intended for use with portable audio products like the BeoSound 2 (which was supplied with a pair). In contrast to all other such headphones, the A8 eschewed moulded plastic in favour of precision machined aluminium, giving a striking, luxurious appearance. The drive units could be telescoped in and out of the frame in a smooth, damped action, whereas the curved section (sheathed in rubber for comfort) could be hinged for a tight fit. To complete the impression of quality and to protect the finish, the A8 headphones came in a specially designed black leather pouch. Connection was via a short, thin lead and a 3.5mm stereo jack plug. The lead was deliberately kept short so as not to become entangled in the pocket, though an extension lead was also included for home use. This still came fitted with a 3.5mm plug, so owners of older equipment (e.g. Beomaster 5000, Beocenter 9500) would need an additional adaptor. The A8s are very sensitive so that they can produce a lot of volume even from portable devices of limited power. The foam covers are new and are removable for washing and a spare set will be supplied.
