This is a set of two Japanese ceramic flower vessels, consisting of a Bizen ware vase and a tokkuri-shaped vase. One piece is a Bizen ware flower vase, showcasing the natural clay texture created through unglazed firing. The surface displays beautiful kiln effects formed during firing, including “goma” (natural ash glaze speckling), reddish hues, and scorch marks—characteristic features of Bizen ware. Its rounded, stable form and slightly narrowed neck create a well-balanced and शांत presence. According to the accompanying leaflet and wooden box inscription, this piece is believed to be the work of Masayuki Shimizu, a ceramic artist based in Bizen, Okayama Prefecture, known for traditional anagama (wood-fired kiln) techniques and powerful, natural expressions. The second piece is a tokkuri-shaped ceramic vase with a rustic and expressive surface. The natural ash glaze and kiln transformation create rich variations in color and texture, reflecting the aesthetics of folk craft (mingei). The contrast between the rough clay body and flowing glaze gives it a strong yet warm character, changing subtly depending on the light. Although unsigned, the form and firing suggest a connection to regional kilns and the mingei tradition. Both pieces can be appreciated not only as functional flower vases but also as decorative objects, bringing a sense of wabi-sabi to any space. They harmonize well with both traditional Japanese interiors and modern settings. ⸻ ■ Contents • Bizen ware flower vase × 1 • Tokkuri-shaped vase × 1 • Original wooden box (for Bizen vase) and leaflet included ⸻ ■ Dimensions (approx.) Bizen vase: Height: approx. 16 cm Mouth diameter: approx. 4 cm Maximum diameter: approx. 10 cm Tokkuri-shaped vase: Height: approx. 11.6 cm Mouth diameter: approx. 3 cm Width: approx. 11 cm Due to the handmade nature, slight variations may occur. ⸻ ■ Condition Overall in good condition. The Bizen vase shows natural kiln effects such as goma, reddish hues, and firing marks. These are inherent characteristics of the piece and part of its unique appeal. The tokkuri-shaped vase has a small chip on the rim, which is considered to be part of the intended aesthetic or natural expression of the piece. Minor signs of age and use such as light wear or small marks may be present. There are no major cracks or structural damage, and both pieces remain suitable for practical use and display. Please refer to the photos for details. ⸻ ■ Shipping The items will be carefully packed and shipped using a double-box method with tracking.
