Pair of Edwardian Silver-Plated Baskets with Uranium Glass Liner – England, circa 1900–1910
A refined and highly decorative pair of English silver-plated baskets dating to the Edwardian period, distinguished by elegant pierced craftsmanship and a striking uranium glass liner.
Each basket is raised on three finely cast feet and features an intricately pierced body with flowing foliate scrollwork and a delicately beaded rim. One example retains its original vivid green uranium glass liner, which displays a characteristic fluorescent glow under UV light – a highly sought-after feature among collectors of period glass and decorative tableware.
The companion basket presents a polished silver interior with a central oval cartouche, framed by subtle geometric engraving, intended for personalisation. Together, the pair offers a beautiful contrast between vibrant colour and restrained classicism.
The lightness of form, refined openwork, and elegant proportions are characteristic of the Edwardian taste – favouring grace and delicacy over the heavier ornamentation of the preceding Victorian period.
Very good antique condition overall. Minor surface wear and light patina consistent with age and use. The uranium glass liner remains well-preserved with no visible cracks or damage. Silver plate in good order.
