Sri Lankan Bronze Standing Buddha – Folk Style – Ceylon, Early 20th Century – 32 cm
A charming Sri Lankan bronze standing Buddha rendered in a traditional folk style, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. Kandy influence. The heavy figure stands upright on a base with the right hand raised in Abhaya Mudra, the gesture of reassurance and protection.
The Buddha displays characteristic regional features including elongated earlobes, stylized hair curls, and a tall flame-like ushnisha. The robe is decorated with repeating textured patterns, reflecting the simple yet expressive craftsmanship typical of village or folk devotional sculpture from Sri Lanka.
