Beschrijving van de verkoper
This exceptional 18th-century money chest dates to around 1750 and retains a beautiful, authentic patina throughout. The chest is richly fitted with original iron mounts and displays the honest wear and surface character that only centuries of use can produce.
A particularly rare and appealing feature of this piece is its double security system: it is equipped with two locks and an interior divided into two separate compartments. Originally, the chest would have had a lid composed of two individual flaps—typical for money chests of this period—allowing each compartment to be secured independently. At a later stage, once its original function as a cash chest had ceased, the lid was thoughtfully adapted into a single, solid piece to improve everyday usability.
The chest is structurally sound, firmly constructed, and sits solidly, with all elements fitting together beautifully. The surrounding patina, ironwork, and proportions give it strong presence while remaining understated and authentic.
A rare and characterful object, combining historical functionality with later practical adaptation—an excellent addition to a refined interior or serious antique collection.
