Eduardo Chillida - Cartel Museo de arte Abstracto de Cuenca

Offset Eduardo Chillida / Abesti Gogora IV , 1960-64. Copyright @ Eduardo Chillida / Fundación Juan March. Published by Fundación Juan March. Printed in Cuenca 2005. Eduardo Chillida Original Poster Museo de Arte abstracto Español de Cuenca. Eduardo Chillida Juantegui was born on 10 January 1924 in San Sebastián, Guipúzcoa. He was the third child of Pedro Chillida and soprano Carmen Juantegui. He played as a goalkeeper for Real Sociedad, where he only played fourteen matches before having to give up due to injury. At the age of nineteen, he began studying architecture in Madrid, but soon abandoned his studies to devote himself to sculpture and drawing at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. In 1948, he moved to Paris and became friends with the painter Pablo Palazuelo. He made his first sculptures in plaster, impressed by the archaic Greek sculptures he saw in the Louvre Museum. These were figurative sculptures that began to take on a more monumental meaning. Little by little, he began to move towards more abstract forms. In 1950, he returned to San Sebastián and married Pilar Belzunce. He began working in a forge in Hernani, where iron brought about a fundamental change in his career. Little by little, he began to introduce his works into open spaces. But he did not only work with iron; he also used other materials such as wood, concrete, steel, stone and alabaster. In the 1980s, he specialised in installing monumental pieces in urban spaces or in nature. This is his most characteristic work, where his sculptures leave their confinement in museums and take to the streets and natural spaces, becoming part of them. His sculptures can be found facing the sea, in the mountains and in cities all over the world. Throughout his life, he received countless awards, such as the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 1987. He participated in hundreds of exhibitions around the world. His work can be seen in major museums and art collections in Europe and the United States. For many, Chillida was the best Spanish sculptor of the second half of the 20th century. Throughout his life, Chillida explored concepts such as volume and emptiness, light and shadow, limits and infinity. Through his works, he sought to express a mystical and transcendental conception of existence. Size: 49.5 x 69.5 cm. All posters have been selected by art lovers for art lovers. Collector's item.
