Manufactured by Carl Zeiss Jena in East Germany during the mid-20th century, the Werra 1 is a highly distinctive 35mm viewfinder camera celebrated for its minimalist and avant-garde industrial design. Named after the German river Werra, this camera stands out due to its remarkably clean top plate and unique control mechanics, most notably the rotating ring around the lens barrel used to advance the film and cock the shutter. Highly regarded by collectors for its streamlined aesthetic and connection to the historic Carl Zeiss Jena factory, the Werra 1 remains a fascinating and tactile piece of photographic history.

KEY FEATURES

Streamlined minimalist design with a clean top plate configuration

Innovative lens-barrel twisting film advance and shutter cocking mechanism

Premium Carl Zeiss Jena optics for high-quality vintage rendering

Robust East German all-metal chassis construction

CONDITION REPORT

Cosmetic: Good overall condition with minor signs of prior use and light age-related wear to the metal and leatherette. The accessory shoe shows clear signs of surface oxidation and aging.

Optics: The viewfinder and lens elements appear clear with minimal internal dust, typical for a vintage camera of this era.

Mechanics: Shutter cocks and fires via the unique barrel advance ring; however, accuracy of the slower speeds has not been timed.
