“An Accurate Map of North America Drawn from the Best Modern Maps and Charts and Regulated by Astronomical Observations. By Eman. Bowen, Geographer to His Majesty” (1747).
This historically significant map by Emanuel Bowen reflects 18th-century geographical knowledge and speculation. It notably includes the mythical land of Quivira north of New Mexico, as well as the “supposed Strait of Anian,” shown on approximately the same latitude as the Great Lakes and believed at the time to provide access to a Northwest Passage between the Arctic Ocean and the Pacific.

24.5 × 20 cm
Condition:
In good condition, with a very small age-related tear in the lower fold
