Historical Context and Lore

The PC Engine, released by NEC and Hudson Soft in 1987, was a revolutionary system that challenged Nintendo and SEGA. The CoreGrafx model, released later, was an improvement on the original console, featuring a better gray color scheme and built-in improved composite video output. This provided a much cleaner video signal than the original PC Engine, making it a favorite among collectors and enthusiasts.

It pioneered the use of HuCard (a credit card-sized media) and later introduced the optional CD-ROM add-on, leading the console wars with advanced storage technology in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The game shown on the screen, PC Genjin (Bonk's Adventure), is one of the system's most iconic titles.
