Beschrijving van de verkoper
Classical Plaster Bust of Homerus
A decorative and atmospheric plaster bust after an ancient Greek prototype, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century.
The sculpture depicts a bearded classical figure with deeply modelled facial features, flowing hair and a contemplative expression. The composition is strongly reminiscent of traditional representations of Homerus, the legendary Greek poet, although the exact identity remains uncertain and may also represent a philosopher, scholar or wise man from Classical Antiquity.
Executed in plaster and mounted on a later display base, the work reflects the long European tradition of academic study casts and Grand Tour reproductions inspired by celebrated ancient sculptures preserved in museums and archaeological collections.
The expressive modelling of the beard, hair and facial structure captures the timeless dignity associated with the great thinkers and poets of the ancient world.
Dimensions
Height: 26.5 cm
Width: 13 cm
Depth: 10 cm
Condition
Good antique condition with age-related wear, minor losses and surface irregularities consistent with age and material. Mounted on a display base.
An attractive decorative object for collectors of classical antiquities, Grand Tour art, academic sculpture and neoclassical interiors.
