This impressive large suzuribako (traditional Japanese writing box) is decorated in genuine hon-maki-e lacquer work depicting an elegant landscape centered around Mount Fuji. The composition features travelers carrying goods along a rural road, traditional thatched-roof houses, pine trees, distant mountains, and the iconic silhouette of Mount Fuji, all rendered in fine gold and silver-colored maki-e decoration against a deep black lacquer ground.

The interior is fitted with practical compartments traditionally used for storing writing implements and stationery, making it both a decorative object and a functional storage box.
