Beschrijving van de verkoper

A decorative lot of two authentic handcrafted European folk-art figures, dating from approximately the 1960s–1970s.

The collection consists of:

1. Russian folkloric female musician

A distinctive handmade figure constructed from natural straw or plant fibres, wood and textile. The doll wears traditional-style clothing decorated with red-and-white woven bands, fabric leg wrappings and braided fibre shoes.

She holds a handmade wooden stringed instrument with a separate bow. The painted wooden face, natural-fibre hair and detailed costume give this figure a highly characteristic Eastern European folk-art appearance.

2. French Provençal male figure by Santons Yolande

A large handcrafted Provençal santon with a painted clay or terracotta head, hands, feet and rectangular base. The figure is dressed in textile rural clothing, including a patterned blue waistcoat, loose trousers and a broad-brimmed hat.

The underside is impressed:

“Santons Yolande – France”

It also retains the original label reading:

“Syndicat des Santonniers de Provence – Véritable Santon d’Argile”

This label identifies it as a genuine clay santon made according to the traditional Provençal craft.

Details

* Number of figures: 2
* Approximate height: 28 cm each
* Origin: Russia and France
* Period: circa 1960–1970
* Materials: natural fibres, wood, textiles and painted clay/terracotta
* Handmade and hand-decorated
* The figures are two separate examples of European folk art and were not originally produced as a matching pair

Condition

Both figures are in good vintage condition, with normal signs of age and use.

The Russian figure appears complete, including the wooden instrument and bow. The natural fibres and textiles remain well preserved.

The French santon shows some age-related wear and slight fraying to the textile clothing, particularly around the front of the blue waistcoat. No major visible damage is apparent from the photographs.

Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.

The figures will be packed separately and carefully for secure shipping.
