This exquisite Japanese woodblock print is based on “The Tale of Heiji (Heiji Monogatari)”, one of Japan’s most important historical picture scroll traditions. The artwork depicts the famous “Rokuhara Imperial Procession” scene, capturing a dramatic moment from the late Heian period when political events and court conflicts shaped the course of Japanese history.
Created and published in 1926 (Taisho 15) by an established Japanese art publisher, this piece was produced using traditional hand-carved woodblock printing techniques, faithfully reproducing the elegant lines, delicate colors, and refined composition of the original classical picture scroll.
The original Heiji Monogatari Emaki is considered a masterpiece of Japanese narrative painting, with surviving sections preserved in renowned collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Among the three major scenes, the “Rokuhara Procession” is especially admired for its artistic quality and historical significance.
Featuring a large-format composition and over a century of history, this rare woodblock print is a remarkable collectible for enthusiasts of Japanese art, ukiyo-e, and antique cultural works.
We will carefully pack it to ensure safe delivery.
