Large Signed Vintage Japanese Hand-Carved Wooden Kuro-Oni Mask – Expressive Horned Demon Wall Sculpture by Artisan Masanao for Japandi Interior

Description
An extraordinary, highly dramatic vintage hand-carved wooden Japanese mask (Omen), portraying a Kuro-Oni (Black Demon spirit), incised with an authentic artist signature on the reverse.

Iconography & Artisanal Craftsmanship:
Artist Signed (Mei): Features a hand-carved Kanji signature on the inner left rim (Masanao / Masanai), attesting to its bespoke artisanal origin.
Dramatic Demon Features: Expertly carved from solid timber with imposing curved horns, deep furrowed brows, piercing eyes, and an open grinning jaw revealing sharp teeth outlined in vivid red lacquer accents.

Hand-Chiseled Texture: The inner surface displays crisp, rhythmic chisel marks (Nomi-ato) characteristic of traditional Japanese woodcarving, fitted with a wire for immediate wall mounting.

Contemporary Interior Display:
With its striking dark aesthetic and powerful theatrical aura, this horned mask serves as a commanding focal piece for modern Japandi interiors, eclectic art walls, or private Asian sculpture collections.

Condition:
Exhibits fine vintage condition with authentic character. Shows minor surface lacquer chips on the horn tips and ear contours, along with light handling wear consistent with aged timber. Structurally rock-solid. Please inspect all detailed photographs prior to bidding.

Period
Circa 1960s–1970s (Mid to Late Showa Period)
