Miyaji Eika - Theekom - Keramiek - Brug & Chrysant

Item Description This lot is a 2-piece set aimed at collectors of tea ceremony utensils and kimono accessories. It combines a black-glazed matcha bowl (chawan) by Miyaji Eika (宮地英香) with a Nishijin-ori pure silk fukuro obi. The chawan is finished in a lustrous black glaze known as "Kuro Ninsei," decorated with painted designs in gold, red, cream, and green depicting chrysanthemums, pine, and a drum bridge (taiko-bashi) spanning flowing water. The foot ring (kōdai) is unglazed, leaving the clay body exposed. No box is included. The obi is a Nishijin-ori pure silk fukuro obi woven with a pattern of bridges, chrysanthemums, and peonies on a gold ground, with cranes in flight over water also visible. A woven maker's inscription reading "Ukihashi Kosode Mon" can be found along the lower edge of the obi. Artist Profile Techniques Inheriting the Tradition of Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki: As a ceramic artist based in Kyoto (Kyo-yaki), Eika Miyaji specializes in traditional overglaze enamel painting and exquisite glaze expressions. As seen in the matcha bowl (chawan) in this listing, her work features a deep black glaze (such as "Kuro Ninsei") combined with vibrant pigments like gold, red, and green, creating a graceful and refined aesthetic world. Attention to Design: Her signature style features delicate brushwork depicting seasonal flowers (such as chrysanthemums) and traditional Japanese landscapes/motifs (such as drum bridges spanning flowing water). While building upon classic traditional designs, she crafts pieces that combine the dignity and beauty expected of tea ceremony utensils. The items shown on the screen are offered as a 2-piece set consisting of a beautiful Kuro Ninsei-style tea bowl and a Nishijin-ori fukuro obi, perfectly highlighting the gorgeous painted charm unique to Eika Miyaji. Please feel free to use this as a reference when proceeding with your listing process. Dimensions Chawan: Height 7.5 cm, Width 12 cm, Depth 12 cm Obi: Length 472 cm, Width 31 cm Weight Chawan: 231 g Obi: 849 g Condition Both items show condition consistent with age and home storage. The chawan has no visible chips or cracks upon visual inspection, though there are small dot-like marks on the unglazed portion of the foot ring (a common occurrence from the firing process). The obi shows no notable staining or damage within the photographed area; however, as this is an aged item, we recommend a full inspection prior to use.
