Middeleeuwen, kruisvaardersperiode Cross pendant, met het St. Andrew's Cross (Zonder Minimumprijs)

Please note: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid. Medieval Crusaders era, silver cross pendant with linear decorations on the arms and a central Cross of St Andrew. Complete with integral suspension loop. The cross will be delivered on a leather jewellery cord, suitable for modern wear or display. Size: ± 27,8 x 18,8 mm Condition: good solid condition, complete, wearable on modern jewellery cord. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. Certificate of Authenticity (PDF) is available upon request for lots with a hammer price of €100 or higher. The Cross of St. Andrew (diagonal cross or 'saltire') has its origins in early Christian tradition surrounding the Apostle Andrew, one of Christ's first disciples. According to early Christian tradition, St Andrew was martyred at Patras in Greece in the 1st century AD. He was said to have been crucified on a diagonal, X-shaped cross rather than the upright Latin form, as he considered himself unworthy to die in the same manner as Christ. This account first appears in 4th-century writings, notably the Acts of Andrew. To the present day Christians wear crosses and sacred pendants close to their hearts as tangible signs of their faith and Gods presence in their lives.
