Bronstijd Brons Paardenbeeldje (Zonder minimumprijs)

A Bronze Age bronze stylised quadruped figurine, likely a horse, featuring a thin body, long legs and a long tail which points outwards. The head displays a triangular-shaped skull with triangular ears pointing upwards. The remnants of a suspension loop survive on the back of the figurine, suggesting amuletic use. There is a bronze protrusion on the neck of the animal, possibly what was saddle trappings. Earthy encrustations to the surface and signs of wear as consistent with age, such as scratches, pitting, and chipping. Both legs on the right side of the figuring have chipped off and are now missing. Please note that the figure cannot stand unaided. Animals are a recurring motif in Bronze Age art and metalwork. The prevalence and intricacy of horse depictions, as well as horse equipment, in Bronze Age bronzes implies a great significance of the animal in the culture. The manufacturers of the these bronzes, though unknown, are widely understood to have been a nomadic people, and horses would have played a crucial role in almost every aspect of life, including transport, warfare, agriculture and religion. Measurements: (circa) L 5.6cm x H 3.4cm Provenance: Ex London Collection, formed between 1990-present. N.B. Delivery may be longer due to the busier period and we do not guarantee delivery before Christmas. Items paid for after the 19th December will be shipped after the New Year (week commencing on the 5th January 2026). **There will be an additional fee incurred for returned shipments due to buyer’s non-response to customs enquiries and/or unsuccessful delivery attempts.**
