Description from the seller
This is a Kia Elan (Lotus Elan Design) with very Low mileage of only 67.750 Kilometres.
When the Elan was getting ready to end production, Lotus was apparently approached by Kia, then a fledgling South Korean automaker with a shallow product lineup, to see if Kia could buy up the rights to the Elan and sell it as a Kia. Presumably because sales weren't especially brisk, Lotus agreed to this, and a new car was born: the Kia Elan, also called the Kia Vigato in Japan and (apparently) the Kia Roadster in Germany.
The Lotus Elan, known as the M100 amongst Lotus enthusiast to differentiate it from the early Elans, was built to "Allow 100 per cent of its owners to use 90 per cent of its performance 90 per cent of the time." Introduced in 1989, the Elan was the first all-new Lotus since 1975.
The Elan was intended to please drivers moving up from a "hot hatch".
Body & Paint:
The bodywork and paintwork are in very good condition. The vehicle has just had a professional body polish and detailing. There is not rust or signs of any rust and the vehicle rubbers are all in excellent condition. The owners of this car have taken very good care of it. The hood is in excellent condition.
Technical:
Mechanically this car is very good, it sounds fantastic and has been very well cared for. The Elan has been off the road as part of a collection so we will do an oil and filter service and check all the brakes and levels before collection. The brakes work perfectly fine as also does the clutch. The car has resided in Japan which has helped this car keep its very original condition. The engine is dry with no oil or water leaks. It has no problem on starting warm or cold. the gearbox is smooth and all gears are as they should be. Mechanically this car has no issues as far as we can detect.
Interior:
The interior in black and red leather with the Vigato embossed logo is in very good condition. As this car was originally supplied to Japan it does have the air conditioning, It has the original Vigato fitted mats still with the car. The carpets are in excellent condition. Everything electrical is working as it should and these will be checked again before collection or delivery.
Documents:
We have the UK registration document. We have the NOVA Certificate showing the taxes to the UK have all been paid. In Japan a lot of the service records are kept digital due to the "Shaken" testing system, this means not everybody keep the hard copies. This vehicle will have been serviced in accordance with the "Shaken" testing but we don't have a hard copy, however we will carry out oil and filter, and check all levels before collection.
Other information:
This car was carefully selected for our own collection but as it is LHD and the lack of storage we are offering this for auction.
This vehicle is not a Barn find or a restoration project nor has it undergone any restoration.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
