Description from the seller

Rare and special miniature of a lady with a large hat. France, Louis XVI, second half of the 18th century. Tempera on cardboard glued to a very fine sheet of gilded metal (gold?). The entire piece is contained within a contemporary gilded metal frame. The fashion of particularly eccentric and large hats was especially widespread in Paris at the court of Queen Marie Antoinette, wife of Louis XVI (see the last two photos). Despite her humble origins, a seamstress named Rose Bertin, with her talent, became the "designer" to whom the queen turned for every small detail, from shoes to hats. We like to imagine that this miniature could have been a "advertising flyer" used by Bertin to promote her creations among the court clientele.

Excellent condition as per photo

Measures:
Miniature height 6 cm, width 5 cm.
Height: 12 cm, width: 9 cm, depth: 0.5 cm.
Approximately 80 grams weight

Family's most valuable assets.

Accurate, tracked, and insured shipment.

I do not ship outside the European Union.

Package dimensions: 29 x 19 x 23 cm. Approximate weight: 1 kg.
