Description from the seller

A charming office wake-up device in the shape of books, made of lacquered gold and faux leather.
JAEGER, PARIS, around 1950

The ingeniously designed case, shaped like a pair of volumes bound in old leather, with the left titled 'Les Comédies' and the right 'Molière Théâtre,' evokes the satirical works of the famous 17th-century French playwright Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known as Molière.
The covers are made with a polished brown patinated leather finish featuring floral motifs and embossed gold lettering, opening in a V-shape to reveal the rectangular dial set within a polished gold brass frame. The white enamel dial is signed 'JAEGER' above black Roman numerals, with fine black minute markers and elegant gold lance-shaped hands, with 'MADE IN FRANCE' inscribed below.

Equipped with a reliable ATO electrical mechanism for precise time measurement, and supported on a small integrated base for stability as a desk or fireplace ornament.
Once closed, the alarm clock discreetly conceals itself as a pair of literary volumes, combining functionality with a whimsical decorative appeal.
A charming object of mid-20th-century novelty from the Jaeger Paris workshops, associated with the prestigious Swiss watchmaking house Jaeger-LeCoultre, which merged with LeCoultre in the late 1950s. It attracts collectors of literary-themed art objects and fine watch pieces. Height: 11.4 cm; open width: 12 cm; closed width: 7 cm. Condition report: Generally good condition for its age, with a slight patina on the gilded elements and minor surface wear on the exterior leather, enhancing its vintage character. The dial is perfect and legible, and the mechanism is clean and flawless.
