Description from the seller
INTACT!
A PERSIAN SGRAFFITO SPLASHWARE POTTERY BOWL, PERSIA 10TH CENTURY
Medieval Islamic pottery bowl, rests on a ring foot, and the thick walls rise steeply up to a flared rim, the earthenware body incised with geometric motifs ( large Cross?), enhanced with a splash application of blue , brown and dark glazes. Diameter: 20 cm. Appears to be intact. The white slip was incised with stylized curvilinear and geometric patterns, then blobs or splashes of the blue , brown, and ochre yellow colors were applied to the surface with a transparent glaze on top, and then the whole piece was fired - with these colored pigments running and dripping to produce the streaked and seemingly "splashed" color placement. Some irridiscense of the glaze.
Provenance: Old US private collection 1980. Gallery M.C.
