Rare Victorian Advertising Mug – G. Tyrer’s Improved Soda Font, Liverpool (c.1840)
Scarce early 19th-century advertising mug for G. Tyrer’s Improved Soda Font, Liverpool, dating to around 1840. Featuring an internal partition, originally used to mix soda water and crystals – an early form of effervescent drink preparation.
Decorated with a black transfer print showing an Oriental landscape, with a cartouche bearing the advertising inscription. Marked “SEMI CHINA” to the base, a ware marketed by Minton.
Condition: very good for its age, with only one very faint hairline opposite of the handle and a minor chip at the base of the handle.
A rare and desirable piece of Victorian advertising pottery, highly collectible and seldom offered on the market.
