Les Lengola dont le territoire est entouré pratiquement de celui de Metoko, entre les rivières de Lualaba et Lomami, étaient comme ces derniers structurés socialement par l'institution Bakota. 
Les grands statuettes marionnettes de vénération. 
Lengola sont connus sous le nom de ubanga Nyama. 
Elles étaient érigées au centre du village après la mort du chef. 
Ces sculptures minimalistes sont censés représenter l'ancêtre fondateur de Lengola, Suway. Des telles statuettes sont rares (Neyt : 38) et leurs fonctions exactes et méconnues (Biebuck: 240) Biebuck suggère que ces statues permettaient aux invocations d'être faites, en particulier par les hommes. 
Elles sont également utilisées lors des rites d'initiation Butoko. 
Ces statuettes peuvent être démontés éventuellement à des fins de stockage ou de portabilité, car elles sont rarement utilisées.
