Description from the seller
Impressive ceramic vase or jug-shaped vase originates from the well-known German manufacturer Scheurich Keramik and belongs to the coveted “europ line” series from the 1960s to the 1970s. Model 420-37 is a markedly rarer variation within this series and convinces especially with its extraordinary size and presence.
With a height of about 37 cm, this vase ranks among the larger formats of Scheurich and clearly stands out from the more frequently offered standard sizes. The weight of around 2.3 kg also underscores the high-quality, solidly crafted ceramic quality and gives the object a special value and stability.
Design-wise, the vase impresses with its distinctive, bright red run glaze that flows in dynamic vertical bands over the dark, metallic-shimmering base. This typical Fat-Lava aesthetic makes each piece an individual unique item and exemplifies the expressive formal language of West German studio ceramics of the Mid-Century era. The contrasting dark-glazed rim and the powerfully modeled handle add further depth to the vase and impart an almost archaic, amphora-like allure.
The base mark “W. Germany 420-37” clearly confirms model and origin. Notably, the still-present original “Scheurich europ line” sticker is worth highlighting, an increasingly rare detail that further increases the collector’s value.
The condition is very good with only light, age-related signs of wear. The glaze displays a beautiful, authentic patina without noticeable damage.
An unusually decorative and at the same time substantial collectible piece of West German ceramic art—in this size and variant markedly rarer to find and with correspondingly strong presence in a room.
