Description from the seller
Raoul Guys was a French designer and maker active mainly around the 1940s–1960s. He designed primarily furniture and metal and rattan (reed) objects that are typified by a modernist and functional style. His work falls under mid-century design (post-WWII), and many pieces combine light, warm materials such as rattan with sleek metal frames.
Raoul Guys began his career as an advertising designer. In 1932 he founded his own design firm: "Société Raoul Guys" and worked for many prestigious clients.
Guy’s work includes, for example:
Rattan armchairs and chairs with metal tube frames (undated, but with emphasis on the 1950s)
Coffee tables and side tables with metal structures and rattan surfaces
Various modern furniture pieces that are valued today by collectors
Raoul Guys is seen as a creative who blended the aesthetics of functional modernism with artisanal materials such as rattan. His pieces, with a contrast between warmth and geometric simplicity, appeal to many mid-century enthusiasts.
