Description from the seller

A refined Japanese Hagi ware tea bowl (chawan) with original tomobako, showcasing the soft textures and natural glaze effects highly appreciated in Japanese tea ceremony aesthetics. A beautifully balanced example of traditional Hagi pottery with attractive wabi-sabi character.

A Japanese Hagi ware tea bowl (chawan), accompanied by its original wooden storage box (tomobako).

This tea bowl demonstrates the characteristic aesthetics of Hagi ware, one of Japan’s most celebrated ceramic traditions closely associated with the Japanese tea ceremony. The piece features a soft, natural form with a gently irregular rim and a warm, earthy glaze ranging from creamy white to subtle pinkish and beige tones. Fine crackles and natural kiln effects enhance its wabi-sabi beauty, appreciated for the way Hagi ware develops character through use over time.

The bowl stands on a sculptural foot with a rustic texture typical of hand-formed Hagi ceramics. The underside bears a stamped seal mark. The wooden box is inscribed and tied with its original cord.

Hagi ware is admired worldwide for its tactile quality and understated elegance, making this piece suitable both for tea ceremony use and for collection or display.

Condition:
Good overall condition consistent with age and traditional firing. Minor firing irregularities and natural glaze variations are inherent to Hagi ware and are not considered defects. Please refer carefully to the photographs.
