This is an original! (rare) etching by the famous German female artist Meta Plückebaum (1876 Dortmund - 1945 Düsseldorf). She painted and etched in the late 19th and first half of the 20th century in Düsseldorf and, besides portraits of people, created many animal portraits, especially of cats. Her work is known all over the world. Her etchings with cats and dogs are highly valued at international auctions.
From Meta Plückebaum, born Weber, little is known about her beyond this. She worked with her husband Carl Plückebaum, also a well-known artist. In the last photo you see the only known photo of her (with her cats) from this period. (This photo is not included, it is private property)
On this uncommon etching we see a portrait of a cat. The nose and eyes are colored with watercolor. In the lower right corner full signature Meta Plückebaum.
Technique: Etching with watercolor.
Dimensions: etching without frame 16 cm x 13 cm
Dimensions framed 31 cm x 15.5 cm
Condition: in good condition. There is a small water stain at the bottom in the matting. On the reverse side there is a crack in the brown covering paper. The etching will of course be packed well for shipping.
P.S.: After her death her etching plates were reused for some time. These prints are signed with Radierung von (rd.v.) Meta Pluckebaum. The original signature of her is not present on these later prints.
