Bisschopsbeeld in hout, Duitsland/Oostenrijk, 1650-1730

Monumentale bisschopsfiguur, zorgvuldig gesneden uit hout en voorzien van resten oude polychromie en vergulding. De expressieve gelaatsuitdrukking is opvallend verfijnd: de bisschop kijkt licht omhoog, een devotionele houding die typisch is voor barokke sculptuur uit Zuid-Duitsland en Oostenrijk. De hand op de borst versterkt dit ingetogen karakter. Het gewaad is rijk uitgewerkt, met de diep gesneden stola, de fijne franje en het kruis dat op de borst rust. Ook de mijter toont zorgvuldig uitgewerkte details.

Hoogte ca. 87cm. Het beeld vertoont duidelijke ouderdomssporen, onder meer een ontbrekende arm, slijtage aan de polychromie en enkele historische restauraties. De achterzijde is volledig uitgewerkt, wat erop wijst dat het oorspronkelijk vrijstaand was opgesteld of deel uitmaakte van een grotere kerkelijke presentatie. Het oppervlak werd op een later moment volledig behandeld met een donkere beschermende laag, waardoor de oorspronkelijke afwerking een meer uniforme toon heeft gekregen
