A five‑piece Ditmar Urbach ceramic service from the Czech Republic (Teplice), dating to 1950–1960, with a two‑tone matte glaze in beige on top and dark brown underneath, measuring 25 cm high, 14 cm wide and 19 cm deep and weighing 2 kg, in good used condition with small signs of aging and staining.
Description from the seller
Ditmar Urbach was known for his vibrant, often hand-painted ceramics and the distinctive Art Deco designs from the 1930s. In 1938 the Nazis took the company from its Jewish owners and it became part of Ostmark-Ceramic. In 1945 nationalization of the factory followed.
From 1989 the company continued under the name Sanvit Teplice.
The dinnerware features a two-tone, matte and semi-matte glaze. The top is broken beige with small speckles, while the bottom has a contrasting dark brown color.
The design is a typical example of the "Brussels style." This movement arose in the former Czechoslovakia after the enormous success of their pavilion at the World Expo 58 in Brussels (1958).
Dimensions: Teapot – height 25 cm, diameter 14 cm, width 19.5 cm, weight 1.6 kg; Glasses – height 9 cm, diameter 7.5 cm
