A handmade Ko-Omote Japanese Noh mask, made of pottery and hand-painted, dating from 1930–1960, 17 cm high and 12 cm wide, manufactured by Ichiraku with an authentic maker's mark inside and an original cord, in good vintage condition with light signs of aging.
Description from the seller
A beautiful and serene Japanese Noh mask of the Ko-Omote type. This mask is one of the most iconic characters in traditional Noh theatre and represents a young, innocent woman. The design is characterized by refined facial features, the high-placed eyebrows (hikimayu) and the subtle smile that changes depending on the light and the tilt of the mask.
The mask is hand-painted and made from a heavy composite or earthenware (pottery). On the inside it features an authentic diamond-shaped maker's mark or stamp from the creator. This type of mask is used in Japan not only in theatre performances (Noh and Kyogen), but is also highly valued as a decorative art object to bring a mood of stillness and tradition into the home.
Condition
The mask is in good vintage condition. The surface shows light signs of aging and patina appropriate for an object of this age. The painting is still bright and the expression has been beautifully preserved. The original cord is still present. Please examine the photos carefully for a good impression of the details and the condition.
