Meiji period Japanese lacquered black wooden tea box titled “Burgautée,” dating to circa 1900, with burgauté mother-of-pearl inlay on the lid and front, gold powder highlights on the landscape, and a fully engraved solid tin inner tub with still-present interior lids, measuring 10 cm wide by 18 cm deep by 5 cm high, in fairly good used condition with possible minor losses.

Revised description
Exceptional Japanese tea box in black lacquered wood, dating from the 1900s.
Lacquer work "Burgauté": The lid and front are adorned with a rich Burgauté décor (inlays of burgau nacre) depicting a pheasant among peonies. The burgau nacre is famous for its intense iridescence, ranging from emerald green to purplish pink.
Gold details: Landscape enhanced with gold powder for the ground and the foliage.
Prestige interior: Unlike common models, this box contains a solid tin basin fully hand-engraved with floral motifs. It still has its inner lids (one being original tin), which is rare for the period.
