An early 20th‑century micromosaic mirror (1910–1920) with a gilded brass frame and glass filato mosaic, Italian made, measuring 26 cm by 10 cm and 2 cm deep, weighing 520 g, in good used condition with minor signs of age and spots.
Description from the seller
The micromosaic, also known as minute mosaic, uses tiny glass-enamel tiles (threads) to create detailed images, often flowers or landscapes.
This technique developed in Rome in the second half of the 18th century and became popular during the 19th century as a souvenir of the Grand Tour.
The tiles are fixed onto a backing, using a special adhesive.
This wonderful mirror, with exquisitely fine workmanship, with flowers and geometric shapes as well as on the front around the mirror and completely worked on the back as well. It further highlights the central oval on a white background, an infinity of flowers, roses, forget-me-nots, and daisies that form a graceful flower bed.
This production is from the early 1900s; the metal material is gilded brass and the mosaic is crafted with Venetian glass threads. Stunning! The attention to detail in this piece is exceptional! The small flowers and leaves stand out with a 3D effect. This mirror is sturdy and heavy for its size. It is finely made and represents a piece of very high quality. The brass frame is luxurious and the entire workmanship is smooth to the touch, a pleasure for the eyes. There are no bits of glass missing; the inner mirror is a bit “cloudy” given its age.
