Bernardo Segni. Florentine Histories. Milan: Società Tipografica dei Classici Italiani, 1805. Rare edition of the famous work by the renowned Italian historian. The historical events in Florence from 1527 to 1555, from the fall of the Medici and the last siege to the consolidation of the Cosimian duchy with the transition from the Florentine Republic to the Medicean Principate under Cosimo I. The paragraph recounting the disgraceful actions of Pier Luigi Farnese against the Bishop of Fano is censored. It is preceded by a Life of Bernardo Segni collected by Andrea Cavalcanti and is followed by the Life of Niccolò Capponi with its own notes. Three volumes. Beautiful half-leather binding of the period. Title and gilt ornaments on the spine. Dimensions 20x14, pages XVI, 367, 424, 378. Splendid condition.
