Kato Taiichi (加藤 泰一) - Tea bowl - Clay - Kai-yu (Ash-Glazed)

Kyoto Ware: Ash-Glazed (Hai-yu or Kai-yu) Hira-Matcha Bowl with Hakeme Motif - by Kato Taiichi This is a refined Hira-Matcha bowl (flat-style tea bowl) crafted by the renowned Kyoto ceramicist, Kato Taiichi (also known as Heian Taiichi). The bowl features a beautiful Ash glaze (Hai-yu), characterized by its subtle greenish-gray tones and a delicate network of crackles (kannyu) that add depth to the surface. A dynamic Hakeme (brushstroke) motif in white slip sweeps across the interior, creating a sense of movement and "landscape" (keshiki) highly prized in the Japanese tea ceremony. The Hira-chawan style, with its wide diameter and shallow depth, is traditionally used during the peak of summer to help the tea cool faster, offering a sense of visual and tactile coolness to the guests. Weighing only 220g, it is exceptionally light and demonstrates the superior potting skills of the artist. Artist: Kato Taiichi (Member of Nitten, Japan's prestigious art exhibition). Signatures: Hand-incised character "泰一" (Taiichi) on the base (Koudai-waki). The artist's stamp is also present on the wooden box and the yellow wrapping cloth. Dimensions: H 6.0 cm × W 15.0 cm Weight: 220g (Extremely light and refined) Condition: Excellent condition. Comes with the original signed wooden box (Tomobako) and the artist-stamped cloth.
