The three-masted brigantine GORCH FOCK was built at the Blohm & Voss shipyards in Hamburg and commissioned in 1958 by the German Federal Navy as a training ship. Aboard this modern sailing vessel, young naval cadets familiarize themselves with ships and the sea.
It has a permanent crew of 70 people and can carry aboard 200 naval cadets for training at any time.
The GORCH FOCK is the seafaring training ship of the Federal Republic of Germany. It received its name in honor of the nautical writer Kienau, who lived on the fishing island of Inkenwerder, in Hamburg, and wrote under the pseudonym GORCH FOCK.
The GORCH FOCK has an overall length of 93.32 meters and a sail area of 1,964 square meters.
