This antique brass lantern was manufactured by the Perkins Marine Lamp & Hardware Corporation, a company with a long history of producing nautical equipment since its founding in Brooklyn in 1916. This specific model is a type of deck or standing light, typically used for general illumination on ships.
History and Identification
• Manufacturer: Originally founded as F. Persky & Co., the firm became the Perkins Marine Lamp Corporation in 1916. The "PERKO" trademark, now widely recognized, was introduced in 1922.
• Company Name Change: The specific name "Perkins Marine Lamp & Hardware Corp." was adopted in 1932 to reflect its expanding product line. This lantern bears this full title, so was likely produced after 1932.
• Design Features: Your lantern features a classic cylindrical glass globe protected by a wire cage, a ventilated turret top, and a swing handle for carrying or hanging. These were commonly fabricated from brass, copper, or galvanized steel to withstand harsh marine environments.
