IBM 1403 control tape punch

1959 (the 60s and 70s)

A peculiar and rare tool from the early days of ‘automation’. This IBM1403 accessory was used to punch the channel holes 1-12 in a paper tape. This tape was used as part of the IBM1403 chain printer for the proper control (carriage control) for printing data on so-called chain forms. This widely used punch works as it should; see the photo with the blue piece of paper.

Een bijzonder en zeldzaam stukje gereedschap uit de begintijd van de ‘automatisering’. Dit IBM1403-accessoire werd gebruikt om de kanaalgaten 1-12 in een ‘papieren’ band te ponsen. Deze band of ‘tape’ werd als onderdeel van de IBM1403 kettingprinter gebruikt voor de juiste aansturing (carriage control) voor het afdrukken van gegevens op zogenoemde kettingformulieren. Deze veel gebruikte pons werkt zoals het hoort, zie de foto met het blauwe stukje papier.
