Patey-type liquid compass, an official Royal Navy compass (NSN 6605-99-460-6389) manufactured by SIRS Navigation Ltd in Admiralty Grey, circa 1980–1990, with brass, bronze and glass construction, 28 cm wide, 24 cm deep, 27 cm high, and weighing 8.6 kg, in excellent condition with minimal signs of age and featuring an original side compartment with a copper petroleum burner and a small battery-powered lamp for illumination.

This beautiful Patey-type liquid-filled compass is an official compass of the British Royal Navy and bears the unique NATO stock number (NSN: 6605-99-460-6389).
This model was manufactured by the renowned SIRS Navigation (UK) and is finished in the characteristic colour 'Admiralty Grey'. It is not only a technical masterpiece, but also an impressive decorative object for lovers of nautical, militaria, or industrial design.
The Code: R/85/SIS/20
The Explanation: In British military coding, 85 almost always stands for the year of manufacture or the official inspection.
The Manufacturer: SIS stands for SIRS Navigation Ltd, the Royal Navy's premier supplier.
Special features:
Complete with Lighting: Unique to this specimen is the side compartment with the original copper petroleum burner. A small battery-powered light has been added so that a mood lighting shines onto the compass rose.
The compass card is razor-sharp and rotates smoothly in the liquid. The glass dome is clear and the sturdy metal housing (binnacle) shows only minimal signs of use, which contributes to the authentic character.
