Riccardo Licata, XCII, a lithography (aquatint) from 1959, edition 43/50, hand-signed, in good condition, plate 40 × 30 cm, sheet 66 × 50 cm, produced in Italy.
Description from the seller
Riccardo LICATA (Turin 1929 – Venice 2014)
Original signed and numbered print – 1959
Technique: aquatint printed on good Arches paper.
Edition: limited to 43/50 (a very restricted print run, rare for this early period).
Signed in pencil at the bottom right: “Licata”
Numbered at the bottom left: “43/50”
Dated: “1959”
Studio annotations: mentions “Arches”, “XCII” (probably plate or series reference), and “43/50” visible in the photos.
Dimensions:
Plaque / motif: 40 × 30 cm
Full sheet: about 66 × 50 cm
Typical abstract composition by Licata in the 1950s: calligraphic signs, organic and geometric shapes evoking hieroglyphs or archaic writings, with brown/earth tones, touches of blue and deep blacks. Informal style / lyrical abstraction, influenced by his Parisian stay and his experiments in Venice.
Condition: good for a 1959 work – period paper with natural edges (deckle), no tears, major creases or visible stains. Slight traces of natural oxidation at the margins (normal for the age), verso clean. Unframed, delivered as photographed.
Authenticity: authentic handwritten signature, original numbering and date.
