Document box, suzuribako / writing box, in nashiji lacquer, maki-e in bright gold.
The materials of this box are wood, gold, and copper.
The box dates from the Edo period, manufactured in the early 1800s, originating from Japan.
The exterior decoration is taka-e for magnificent cranes carrying floral sprigs.
The interior is decorated with a landscape representing an empire with its dwellings surrounded by mountains, temples with at the center a water body—a sea or ocean.
The craftsmanship of this piece is stunning.
In very good condition with only very minor losses as shown in the photos.
Dimensions are large and generous, adding to its rarity: height 14.5 cm, length 42 cm and width 33 cm.
