This work is by Yasunosuke, a wax-model casting artist known for faithful depictions of insects and small animals. It is a Jizai Okimono (articulated sculpture) of a Ryu (dragon), a creature worshipped worldwide since ancient times as a legendary being. The body is fully articulated and can be posed in various positions. While dragons in Japan are commonly depicted with three claws, this work features five claws, known as Godzumenoryu, which is considered the highest rank of dragon.
