Offered here is one of the most celebrated and discussed works by the American photographer Cindy Sherman: "Untitled (Marilyn)" from 1981. In this staged photograph, Sherman explores the myth of Marilyn Monroe. Unlike traditional, glamorous Hollywood portraits, Sherman depicts the icon in a moment of deep melancholy and vulnerability. While the blonde curls and red lips are unmistakable, the figure is presented in plain, everyday clothing—crouched on the floor in a way that deconstructs the public "brand" of the sex symbol to reveal a psychological depth. This work is a profound critique of celebrity culture, voyeurism, and the construction of femininity.

About the Artist: 
Cindy Sherman (b. 1954) is one of the most influential contemporary artists in the world. A key figure of the "Pictures Generation," she uses herself as a model to explore gender roles and social stereotypes. Her works are held in the permanent collections of major institutions such as MoMA (New York), the Tate Modern (London), and the Centre Pompidou (Paris).
