Description from the seller
Johann Elias Ridinger (1698–1767)
"The Bear in the Camp among the Mountains" – Print of copper engraving / etching
For sale is a sheet by the notable Augsburg animal and hunting illustrator Johann Elias Ridinger. The work shows a resting bear in a rocky mountain landscape – a typical motif from Ridinger’s impressive animal depictions of the 18th century.
The print stands out for its bold, clear line work and a very beautiful sense of depth. The sheet is clean, well-preserved for its age, without tears or restorations (see photos).
The sheet was framed in Vienna at Klötzl, Spiegel- & Rahmenlager, which points to a professional framing.
• Artist: Johann Elias Ridinger
• Motif: "The Bear in the Camp among the Mountains"
• Technique: Fine art print on handmade paper ( Bütten )
• Condition: very good, clean, strong print
• Frame: wooden frame, Vienna workshop Klötzl
the passepartout is somewhat yellowed due to its fairly advanced age (see photo)
Regarding Klötzl: it is a typical Viennese crafts and trading company at the turn of the century, responsible for the upscale furnishing of apartments (mirrors, framed pictures) in the bourgeois Alsergrund.
