Description from the seller
Pair of antique Victorian 'Press-back' Windsor armchairs
Set of two English Windsor chairs, model 'Captain’s Chair'.
Dating: Late Victorian, circa 1880 - 1900.
Material: Fully crafted from solid oak with a rich, well-worn patina.
Description:
An exceptionally matching pair of antique Windsor chairs of high quality. The chairs are equipped with a characteristic 'press-back' overrail featuring finely detailed woodcarving (scrollwork/roundel motif). The construction displays the classic Windsor characteristics: a deeply scooped saddle seat, continuous spindles, and turned legs connected by an H-shaped stretcher for maximum stability.
Condition:
The chairs are in an authentic, unrestored state. Structurally very solid with the original mortise-and-tenon joints. The wood shows beautiful natural wear on the armrests and seat, appropriate for the age. There are normal shrinkage cracks in line with age, which do not affect stability. Free of active woodworm.
Dimensions:
Total height: 91 cm
Seat height: 45 cm
Seat width: 46 cm
