Description from the seller
Valuable, wonderfully adorned historical guitar with label "Salvador Ibáñez".
"Salvador Ibáñez (1854-1920) was a Spanish luthier. He built all kinds of string instruments. These instruments were regarded as the best of their time and are valued for their superb quality and flawless workmanship.
At the age of eleven, Ibáñez began an apprenticeship in guitar making on Calle Muela in Valencia.
In 1870 he founded his own company: Salvador Ibáñez y Albiñara. The company was registered on Calle Cubells. In his workshop worked the ten-year-old José Ibáñez and Magdalena Albiñara y Magraner from Ollería, Valencia. In 1896 he first appeared in the trade directories on Calle Ruzafa in Valencia and from 1898 to 1906 his shop was located on Calle Bajada de San Francisco. Salvador Ibáñez produced bandurrias, lutes, six- and nine-string guitars as well as guitars with removable necks.
In 1897 he built the world's first double-neck guitar. In the years 1915-1920, Salvador Ibáñez e Hijos (Salvador Ibáñez and Sons) was located on Calle Bajada de San Francisco and on Calle Padre Rico in Valencia.
When he died in 1920, the workshop was continued by his two sons until it was sold in 1933 to Telesforo Julve. Julve bought the name Salvador Ibanez, the personnel and the machines and integrated them into his own company.
Julian Bream played a Salvador Ibáñez guitar. Eric Clapton owned several original Salvador-Ibáñez guitars, one of which achieved a final price of $42,000 at a charity auction in 1999."

The guitar features a spruce top and rosewood back and sides. The finish consists of shellac, which has been refreshed. The tailpiece is of a newer date but is period-accurate and functions perfectly.
